A BRIEF HISTORY OF COLORGRAPHICS.ME

I was 17 when I started working with color separation full-time (13 if you count me working part-time) and the family business had the only color scanner north of New York City.  I was the youngest scanner operator in the U.S. then and learned about meeting deadlines, becoming proficient with new technology, and developing my eye for color.  In the late 80’s, I became a father, the night shift manager, and then the day shift customer service representative.

1980’s

As my family grew, digital photography and printing gained popularity. The family business quickly adapted to the changing needs of our customers and I became the lead salesman. I also assisted with high-quality color separations for printing presses and hit the road to do direct sales. I also taught design and marketing courses at the local community college and spoke at many seminars.

1990’s

The printing world continued to change and so did the family business. In 2000, my amazing wife, Pam, and I became owners of Graphic Color and continued to expand the services and products we offered. Five years later, the company name was changed to ColorGraphics and we moved the business to Sidney, near our house.

2000’s

5 flatbed printers began to fill the shop and allowed the business to soar. The reputation of the business grew and we were able to help more businesses with their visual communication plans more than ever. I won Business Man of the Year from the Mid-Maine Chamber in 2013 and enjoyed seeing the success of my four children as they neared the end of public school and began college. My children (and some of their spouses, too!) have worked for the company in some aspects- cutting banners, delivering jobs, website design, and social media management. As our business grew, we needed more help to meet the needs of our customers. We added Collin to our team where he started working as a production worker in 2013 and now works as a technical designer/production manager.

2010’s

Despite being only a couple of years into this decade, many changes have taken place. We have replaced all flatbed printers with wide-format roll-to-roll printers and have expanded into custom-cut decals, stickers, and custom-cut labels printing on rolls. Digital printing has continued to grow and so has our family. We have welcomed four grandchildren and look forward to seeing where else this business takes us.
